Piezography

Piezography is a modern digital photo printing technique that creates highest-quality monochrome prints using multiple shades of black or gray carbon-pigment ink. Unlike traditional black and white printing that uses a single black ink, piezography employs multiple dilutions of black ink – typically between 3 to 7 different concentrations – to produce extremely smooth tonal gradations and deep blacks. The process uses specialized software to control ink placement and specialized inks designed for pigment-based inkjet printers, resulting in archival-quality prints with exceptional detail and dynamic range.

Carbon Wet Prints

Carbon Prints refer to a direct pigment process where pigments are suspended in a light-sensitive eco-polymer binder. This follows the same fundamental principle as other direct pigment processes like gum bichromate or casein printing, where exposure to light hardens the binder and determines how much pigment remains in the final print. The photo is printed as a piezo digital negative and then exposed onto the treated paper.
